Wardrobe Restyle: The LBD

ree

I have learnt so much this year about styling and particularly my style. I have also started to realise that one of my core tenants as a stylist is about making clothes work harder.

Mostly importantly, that is because clarity of message is increased by fewer, but well chosen, clothes - the same as it is in words in the other side of my business! Of course, with clothes that is also economical in $$$, time and effort to dress each day, and in wardrobe space!

Reveal Styling is about bringing together the real ‘you' inside and out. Then making that effortless.

So, as they say, ‘do unto others...' - I am setting out over November and December to ‘restyle or release' items in my wardrobe I'm not wearing.

The LBD restyle - the little black dress is a classic. Something we all have, I’ve had mine since the late 1990s (Gwyneth P in Sliding Doors-inspired). I have always loved it, but I realise it doesn’t get much use.

So, what to do 🤔 - ✂️ or 🚮 ?

It was long originally, but I cut it to knee length when I bought a new evening dress. It still doesn’t see the light of day really…

Trying it on, using my #asistylist skills, I can see what’s ‘wrong’ - knee length makes me feel frumpy (I understand others won't feel that way about this length), and it doesn’t quite hang right on my hips anymore.

Before making an irrevocable decision, I experimented - tucking it into my undies on one side changed the length and the drape - magical!!! A couple of safety pins on the inside and it feels absolutely perfect all of a sudden (cutting it would only solve the length issue)! Now I'm cocktail ready!!!!

I also want everything in my wardrobe to be more versatile - so, a little experiment with a white shirt and belt and ‘Bob’s your uncle’, as they say. Desk to date attire!!!!

And now my brain is firing… I want to take it to Europe for New Year, but it needs to earn its spot in the carry on-sized bag I'm taking…

What about a black roll neck under? What about my grey slouchy wool roll neck over + boots? Tucked in on one side is it really that different to the viral Zara slip dress over jeans….?

Looks like the 90s LBD is staying, and you might just see it in my Europe trip pics on high rotation! 😁
