Three no $$$ tricks for Autumn dressing

We are at that inflection point again… ‘trans-seasonal’ dressing. Along with that of course comes new season clothes in the shops in all their array of colours and shapes.

Now, I have been philosophically resisting autumn dressing for, well, the six weeks of autumn so far, but now it’s definitely cooler, and the light has really changed. So, I’m in.

But, that doesn’t mean I want to totally give up on half my wardrobe, not least because I don’t really want to purchase anything. Not for the sake of it anyway.

Brown, burgundy, blue, and green are this season’s colours. Only the ‘olive’ hues are really different to what we have seen in previous years. (Fortunately for my bank account, it is not a colour that looks good on me, but I am vulnerable to something in deep green!)

And it seems that leopard is now never not in season – so it is the key pattern and neutral of autumn.

Refreshing something already in the wardrobe then, and layering some of your current summer favourites, is the answer to feeling fresh and ‘new season’, without shopping.

Three go to moves:

-       Add tights and/or boots to skirts and shorts (yes, shorts!!!)

-       Add a shirt or jumper under a dress

-       Of course, it’s an excellent ‘blazer’ moment. But also, a jumper around the shoulders or a light coat instead of a jacket.

Thrifting can also be a great answer if over-consumption and budget are on your mind. Our Thrift stores are getting better and better curated, following their European and Japanese counterparts. Most have brought out their best season appropriate stock.

I am seeing so much leopard in the charity store windows, dressed up with lovely caramel, as well as black and grey!

I am also having so much fun with accessories recently, which is making some pieces I have had for ages feel new. Try:

-       Broaches on jumpers

-       earrings as broaches, and bracelets/necklaces as this season’s ‘watch chains’

-       Mixing earrings for asymmetry

-       Stacking necklaces, bracelets, rings - including mixing metals

Trans-seasonal dressing is just one of the problems I help my clients fix in their wardrobes, so that they can feel fabulous, dress easily, and reduce their consumption and $$$ spend. AND, have more fun in their wardrobe!!!!

Dive in, play and get creative!!!! Clothes don’t have feelings, the worst that can happen is you hang them back up again and go back to your fave jeans and jumper!
