Wardrobe Restyle: Kaftan

Colour is our #1 draw card when buying clothes, this ‘Camilla-eque’ kaftan I bought in Bali in 2016 is a very good example. It is also a good example of ‘holiday you’ buying things that may not work for 'real’ you!
It is ALL my favourite colours in one garment. I love seeing it in my wardrobe, but it makes me sad that it rarely gets worn. It's too beautiful to be worn only once a year on a holiday night out, or as a beach cover up.
I have tried wearing it a few ways. In theory the gauzy fabric should be sexy. But inevitably I feel a bit shapeless in it. So, what to do 🤔 - 👍 or 🚮 ?
Before making a decision, I experimented. I took photographs of a range of ways that I have tried wearing it. Looking at yourself ‘in abstract’ helps, and it makes it easier to use my stylist skills.

All options look objectively ‘nice’ ✅ ✅ but somehow not ✅✅✅ Can I ‘fix’ it to be ✅✅✅ 🤔
And then it hit me... I have had so much success recently with ‘layers’. Shirt dresses and other long layers that add to an outfit to give structure and/or flow.
Could ✂️ be the solution?
It's a gamble - but what is the worst that can happen if I truly don’t think after nine years I am going to wear it consistently the other ways? (NOPE!) Well, then I spend a few $$ on the alteration and someone else wears it as a layer.)
I also want everything in my wardrobe to be more versatile - I am confident that making it a ‘layer’ would mean I could put it over a range of evening and day time looks (and still use it as a beach cover up) and a huge range of different colour outfits!✅✅✅
Bugger it! Let’s do it!!

Conclusion: $55 later... This is going nowhere near the ‘Release Rail’ - I love it and am confident it will get sooo much wear now! ✅✅✅ ✅✅✅
